Commission a Portrait

I accept commissions for children’s and pet portraits.

Because little ones and pets tend to be squirmy, I work from photos that you happen to be especially fond of.

Basic pricing (acrylic or oil):

A deposit of 50% is required before work begins, with the final balance payable upon completion. Prices do not include sales tax, framing, or shipping. Upon receipt of your painting, the final payment is due.

I’m also happy to work with you on a payment plan that better suits you, just send me an email to discuss.

Small (6″ x 6″ –  10” x 10”): $300 – $400 +

Medium (12” x 12” –  15” x 30”): $580 – $1800 +

Large (16” x 20” and up): $1800 +

Words from some happy customers:

“Maggie’s art is magical. She captured my daughter’s essence perfectly and created not just art, but a time capsule that will always take me back to this amazing age!”

— Lauren Fire, Marin, CA

“If you are looking for someone to paint a portrait of your child I highly recommend Maggie Hurley. Maggie is an artist who I expect will be quite well known someday. She is bright, personable and easy to work with.

“The portrait she did of our son makes me tear up when I look at it because it is so beautiful. She really captured the spirit of our son. She prefers to work from a photo so you don’t have to worry about making your child sit still. Her prices are very reasonable.”

— Steve L., Berkeley, CA

Process:

We chat about what you’re looking for – this is a good time to email me a selection of photos that you’re considering and we decide what will work well as a painting.  The conversation then turns to specifics: time frame, size, preferred medium, etc.

I’m happy to play with backgrounds, lighting, or just about any other way to spruce up a snapshot that you would otherwise love. I’ll send you a digital sketch prior to starting the painting.

Small portraits normally take about a month to 2 months to complete, larger paintings take approximately 2 -6 months depending on complexity and my current schedule.
