Dolphins at Sutro Tower

A painting from a series that I’ll be developing for the foreseeable future: The Wayward Whales. Dolphins are cetaceans, so I think it’s ok to include them in this series :).

If you’ve been following my work, I’m sure you’ve noticed that much of my focus is on the ocean. Not to get all preachy, but it’s in trouble. You can read more about that here. With this on my mind, I found myself daydreaming about what would happen if the ocean became uninhabitable to the point that our marine mammal friends took to the sky. Or, will the oceans rise and turn the planet into an entire world of Atlantis? Will whales drift past sunken cities and other relics? I’m attempting to leave it up to the viewer to decide…

These dolphins have made their way from the Pacific to San Francisco’s Sutro Tower.
