New Portrait in Progress

Last night I whipped out my oil paints that had been busy collecting dust and started this portrait of a friend. She reminds me a bit of that woman from the National Geographic cover.

It’s a little different than a lot of what I’ve done, but I think this is more a direction that I’d like to pursue – a bit more dramatic/rich. I’m not quite sure how to explain it. I figure it’s about 65% done at this point (I’m guessing I’ll be working on it most of today and then have to walk away before I mess it up too much). One thing I’ve learned though, is that I love love love painting on wood. More to come!
