This listing is for my original painting of a Fischer’s Turaco called, “Don’t Lean on Me Man.”
I so admired this bird’s fancy do that I went and dyed my hair pink. I kept thinking that perhaps this bird might have inspired David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust. Do you see the similarities? At any rate, Bowie helped me title this piece.
About the Bird
From our Friends at the Beauty of Birds:
This Turaco is found in East Kenya, South Somalia, East Tanzania, Nambia, Angola, Zambia, South-Eastern parts of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (formerly Zaire), Malawi, Namibia, North-east Botswana, Zimbabwe, and Mozambique. It is the only Turaco species to be also found outside mainland Africa – living on the offshore island of Zanzibar.
As they prefer humid forests areas, their natural habitats include subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and moist montains, and arable land. They can be seen in dry open savanna woodlands, farms, parks and suburban gardens – often near water.
This species is threatened by habitat loss.
